Felix Baumgartner

Post by Wind12 on Sun Oct 14, 2012 10:26 pm

Earlier today Felix Baumgartner broke a record for the highest jump ever, jumping from 24 miles up and breaking the sound barrier on the way down, I think that this is a really cool stunt, and I am glad it went well for him, I couldn't imagine practicaly taking a leap of faith from space!

I cant quote him word for word but I read how he said when you are up there you are just so humble and you dont care about breaking any records you just want to get back down to earth safely.

One colleague at work was like: What's the big deal? We sent a guy on the moon. THAT was a big deal. This little boy is jumping down, so??
My response? Jealous much?
Guy: *walking away*

Seriously - don't recognize when anyone else has done something kick you in the butt, skyhigh, spit on my neck awesome like Felix.
Grrr.

That post maybe should have gone in the thread: What gets under my skin XD

BUT: AWESOME FELIXXXXXXXXXXXXX!!!!!

I guess your work colleague breaks the speed of sound every morning jumping out of his bed to go to work? Hahaha

Hahaha...how scary to be up that far and know your way back down is to jump.

Some even speculated his body would break apart if he was to break the speed of sound, what he did was a big deal to me, I wish there was more news about things like this, show some positive, instead of all the horrible things that go on around the world.

YES!!

And I wish that they would stop calling it a waste of money in these times.
Oh, how many things come to my hand in one second that are an actual waste of money - compared to this...

The isnt a rhetorical question as I honestly dont know, did Red Bull not foot the bill for this? I assumed they did since they were plastered all over it and have and do sponsor many exotic "sport" type things.

Makes me want to buy more red bull honestly.

I wish more big businesses did this type of thing, expensive, Im sure, but what better way to get your logo out there, years from now when they talk about the first person to break the sound barrier with nothing but his body it will show a picture of him, with red bull on his suit and helmet, thats good marketing right there.

Yes!

And finding a guy as nuts as Felix showing that so far nothing happened to his body when he broke the sound barriere under these conditions shouldn't be forgotten. Especially for future astronauts or any kind of accident up there.
If this is not as important to research as it is to red bull itself, I don't know.

Fantastic point, its very beneficial to both, and research for things like this translates into new metals, plastics, things that eventually get to the general public and helps us all out in one way or another.

Yea I can't stand people that try to snub things like this, this was an awesome stunt, and it would have been amazing to see the atmosphere from that perspective,it is things like this that pave the way for progress. I would support RB, but I have never had an enegry drink before. If I ever decide to try one it will be a Red Bull,( and I think Ja'k would approve;))
